Vänern is Sweden’s largest lake and boasts Europe’s largest freshwater archipelago. The Djurö National Park is located in the middle of Lake Vänern. The naturum Vänerskärgården – Victoriahuset is considered a bridge out to the Djurö National Park and to other Nature Reserves around the archipelago.

Inside naturum, there are inspiring exhibitions that will enrich your visit to the archipelago of Lake Vänern. Guided tours through and around naturum are offered, as well as lectures and family activities. In the Visitor Center you can buy tickets for our guided boat trips, pick up maps for hiking or find out what you can do on your own. Read about events in our Calendar.

The area around Läckö Castle is a part of Unesco’s Biosphere Reserve Vänerskärgården with Kinnekulle and the table mountain landscape.

What is a naturum?

The word “naturum” is a registered trademark owned by The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. A naturum is the starting point for visitors to a Nature Reserve, think of it as a doorway to the nature. It is where you find out more about the flora and fanuna, as well as the geology and cultural history that shaped the area, before you set off into the reserve or national park. There are 33 naturums in Sweden, and this naturum is connected to Djurö National Park.

Apart from having activities for children during peak season we also welcome school groups during the school year. We offer programmes for all ages, from preschoolers (6-year-olds) to young adults in Swedish gymnasium (16-19-year-olds). The exhibition and the proximity to the lakeside create the perfect environment to learn more about Lake Vänern’s archipelago and its inhabitants.
