Our sustainable choices
Sustainability is a cornerstone of everything we do at Läckö Castle Foundation. By choosing environmentally friendly alternatives and collaborating with local actors, we create a more sustainable future both for ourselves and for future generations.
Our sustainable choices,
preserving history and working for the future
The Läckö Castle Foundation aims to teach people about the history of the castle and preserve it for the future. To do this, we need to work in the long term and keep sustainability in mind throughout our operations so that future generations can also enjoy the site. For us, it is important to protect the local community, we try to cooperate and buy the goods and services that go from Kållandsö and Lidköping. Talk to us in the staff if you want tips on what else there is to see, do and buy on Kållandsö and in Lidköping.
Sizes
We endeavour to serve as much organic food as possible. The breakfast buffet at the hotel is KRAV-labelled level Silver, KRAV's control body checks that we serve over 50 % KRAV-labelled / organic food at the breakfast buffet. At breakfast we also work with many local suppliers of bread, fish and marmalade.
KRAV is Sweden's best-known sustainability label for food that is organic and has extra high requirements for biodiversity, less climate impact, good animal welfare and better working conditions for employees.
The castle garden
Little Castle Garden is KRAV-labelled, all vegetables, root vegetables and herbs grown in the garden are organic and meet KRAV's strict requirements. Feel free to ask the gardeners if you want to learn more about organic farming.
What is harvested in the garden then goes down to the nature centre to end up on the plates in our café. And what is found in the meadows in the area is mowed with a scythe and composted to be dug into the soil again.
The care of the premises and the neighbourhood
Most of the detergents used to clean our premises are organic, and we send our laundry to a laundry that only uses Nordic Swan Ecolabelled detergents. We also make the most of waste, for example the soap packs that are changed even though there is little left go to staff areas. And at campsites there is the reverse bin, a box of leftover toilet rolls that have been exchanged and given away to guests.
All the electricity we use comes from renewable sources and is eco-labelled. We also use electric cars and bicycles for most transport on the site. On the roofs of the storage rooms behind naturum Vänerskärgården - Victoriahuset there are solar cells that heat the water, they mean that we are almost self-sufficient in hot water during the summers.
The staff
If staff feel good at work, your experience will be better too. Läckö accommodates many different job roles, especially during the high season, and everyone is needed to keep the organisation running smoothly. Therefore, we also need staff from different backgrounds to drive the work forward, we want as much diversity as possible among us who work here.
For us, staff cohesion is important to create a working environment where staff feel safe and can easily ask for help.
Spreading the knowledge
Last but not least, we like to share our knowledge about environmental and sustainability work through talks, exhibitions and nature centre educators. We also place great emphasis on teaching future generations about sustainable development. Everyone in grades 2, 5 and 8 in Lidköping municipality comes out to naturum Vänerskärgården - Victoriahuset during the school year to learn more about nature in the local area.
What can you do to help?
A large part of our environmental impact is that most of our guests arrive by car or boat. We will be happy if you as a guest have the opportunity and want to help us reduce our climate impact by take a bus, bike or carpool to us! Once you're here, there are plenty of bikes for hire to get around Kållandsö without a car.
We hope that all guests and staff will take care of the rubbish behind them and recycle what they can. Recycling facilities are available in naturum Vänerskärgården - Victoriahuset and at the campsite for our guests.
You can charge your electric car here with us in our visitor car park.
