Garden

The Little Castle Garden is an integral part of Läckö Castle. Here, gardeners have lovingly and carefully created a place where organic farming is the focus. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings and taste fresh produce straight from the garden.

Experience the Little Castle Garden

The Little Castle Garden is outstanding and absolutely irresistible. Garden designer Simon Irvine worked on the garden from 1990 to transform it into what it is today. Our gardeners are passionate about digging, planting, composting and caring for the garden with the long term in mind to show what ecological sustainability looks like in reality.

Every spring, the gardeners turn the soil by hand, carefully and methodically. And every autumn, a compost is built up from the meadow grass around the castle. It becomes nutrients for next year's production. The Little Castle Garden is an oasis to stop in during your visit to the castle.

Swedish Gardens

Lilla Slottsträdgården is part of Gardening holidays. Trädgårdsresan is a regional mission and a West Swedish equivalent of England's gardening calendar "Yellow Book". Here you can get tips on several gardening experiences in western Sweden

Lilla Slottsträdgården is also a member of Swedish Gardens which is a network of Sweden's leading parks and visitor gardens. The 35 member facilities all have their own unique story and way of presenting garden culture. Swedish Gardens' main task is to help visitors from Sweden and abroad to discover the wealth of attractions they represent. It should be easy to find the parks you want to visit and to discover new cultural treasures that you did not know about before.

A living resource

Every year the gardeners work to maintain the garden as the kitchen garden it was once intended to be. The Little Castle Garden is today a valuable and living resource for the castle, which visitors can enjoy in the café and restaurant.

The farming is organic and much of what is harvested is carried down to the kitchen. Herbs, lettuces, cabbage, beetroot and cucumbers - when it's served, it's as locally grown as it gets. Yet there is no trace of it in the garden, so rich is the harvest and so skilful are the gardeners.
