Fidelio

Opera in two acts by Ludwig van Beethoven.
Translation: Catarina Gnosspelius
Premiere 10th July 2026

In the summer of 2026, Läckö Castle will be transformed into a prison.
Fidelio is Beethoven's only opera. A rescue opera, its plot is said to be based on a real event from the French Revolution.

It is a work whose story can reflect many situations in our time where human rights are suppressed and ordinary people are killed or taken away into captivity. But it is also a story of hope. The hope that the resistance of the little person can bring about real change.

Opera at Läckö since 1997

It started with one man standing alone in the empty courtyard, unable to resist trying out his voice against the high whitewashed walls. Now, over 50 singers, musicians, creators and stage technicians take over the courtyard every summer, transforming it into a unique venue for musical theatre.

Take the bus to the opera

Make the opera experience at Läckö Castle both easy and enjoyable by travelling with our opera bus. The bus takes you both to and from Läckö.

Combine your ticket with our pre-show dinner package. Enjoy a well-prepared meal with seasonal ingredients in the castle's natural environment, before the walk up to the courtyard where the music awaits under the open sky.

A full evening of flavour, culture and summer feeling - where we take care of both the journey and the experience.
