Annual Meeting 2025 - New Year with Friends of Läckö

Three women played as many leading roles when the Friends of Läckö Association gathered for its annual meeting in Victoriahuset at Läckö on 24 May. They were Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie's wife Marie Euphrosyne, who was the subject of this year's lecture on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of her birth, the 17th century researcher Associate Professor Susanne Tienken, who gave the lecture, and the former director of opera and performing arts at Läckö Catarina Gnosspelius, who was appointed a new honorary member. However, there was no shortage of male actors. Sten-Eric Lager ably chaired the proceedings of the meeting, during which the board was re-elected in its entirety, the CEO of the Läckö Foundation, Jan Malmgren, spoke about the summer programme at the castle and the renovation work now underway there, and the association's chairman, Åke Bonnier, thanked all those who had taken part.

Annual General Meeting 2024

Åke Bonnier takes over the baton from Lars-Göran Lönnermark

On 27 April, the Friends of Läckö Association held its annual meeting in Victoria House at Läckö Castle. The meeting elected a new chairman, appointed a new honorary member and participants learned more about Sweden's first female entrepreneur.

The association's chairman Lars-Göran Lönnermark declined re-election and Åke Bonnier was elected as new chairman in his place. Persons who have made special contributions to the development of Läckö Castle and the Läckö Friends Association may be appointed honorary members of the association by the annual meeting. The annual meeting decided to make Lars-Göran Lönnermark an honorary member on the grounds that he "has contributed with interest, knowledge and tireless commitment to the association's expansion during his more than twenty-five years of work on the board of the Friends. Lars-Göran has also been greatly appreciated by both members of the association and board members for his inclusive leadership".

After the talk, Läckö Castle's CEO Jan Malmgren spoke about the coming season at Läckö Castle. Then the manager and guide Fredrik Kindberg gave a talk about a woman who made a big impression in 17th century Sweden. Like her mother Ebba Brahe, Maria Sofia De la Gardie was a very enterprising person with a flair for business. She began her career as a lady-in-waiting at the palace and was one of the main organisers of Queen Kristina's coronation. Maria Sofia was widowed at a young age after her husband was killed in the war and she never remarried despite many offers. She seemed content to be an independent widow and to do something for Sweden. Maria Sofia was involved in a wide range of businesses, such as a haberdashery, a brassworks, an oil mill, a soap factory and a gun factory. Her life was marked by conflict and litigation, but she fared better than her brother Magnus Gabriel in that she never fell out of favour with the ruling monarch. However, the reduction was unavoidable and she eventually lost most of her estates and farms.

Lars-Göran Lönnermark is thanked by Bodil Warolin and Wilhelm Klingspor.
